Everybody is trying to get more traffic to their website these days by optimizing their site for Google. Google is, after all, the search engine giant producing billions of views per day. But with every SEO vying for these billions of searches, it dilutes the available traffic that can visit your site.
There is another way. By optimizing your site for Bing (in addition to Google), you can get all the traffic from both Bing and Yahoo. Bing and Yahoo compete with Google for market share with 18% and 12% of searches respectively. How does Bing optimization get Yahoo traffic, you might ask? Well, the Yahoo Site Explorer was discontinued in November 2011 and merged with the Bing Webmaster Tools so now by optimizing for Bing, you get Yahoo traffic as an free bonus.
Here is how Bing compares to Google in searches:
- Brands Rank Higher – It seems that brands tend to rank higher in Bing than Google and so do exact match domains. Let this little trick add to your arsonal so you can rank fast in Bing while working on your Google SEO.
- Quantity of Backlinks Rank Higher – At this moment in time, quantity of backlinks is more important than quality for Bing. Don’t let this go to your head – things used to be the same for Google. Keep building quality backlinks and in time you will amass large amounts of quality backlinks which will rank you high in Bing and Google.
- Social Signals Rank Higher – Social signals (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.) cannot be understated. They are the way SEO is going in the future. Everyone must be getting involved with social signals for their own benefit. Luckily, doing so will help you more in Bing at the moment.
- Pages with More Text Rank Higher – Pages that rank high in Bing have about 100 more words on them than similar ranking pages in Google. Every SEO blog says that the web crawling spiders love “good, quality, relevant content.” So indulge them, for your benefit with Bing.
While it may or may not be true, there is the possibility that Bing and Yahoo may one day match Google in terms of daily searches. Bing is investing lots of money in advertising their services and even appears as the search engine of choice on the hit TV show Ridiculousness. Try searching your keyword on Bing and look at how few results show up or are even indexed. It will not take long for a decent SEO to rank #1 in Bing. Why not be prepared for increased Bing searches and be proactive instead of reactive.
