The best interface is no interface | Cooper Journal
Golden Krishna, Cooper Journal:
With UI, we are faced with counterintuitive interaction methods that are tailored to the needs of a computer. We are forced to navigate complex databases to obtain simple information. We are required to memorize countless passwords with rules like one capital letter, two numbers and a punctuation mark. And most importantly, we’re constantly pulled away from the stuff we actually want to be doing.
Jack Dorsey and Twitter: Can you have a part-time product visionary?
No, you can't.

Apple improving 3D Flyover visuals in iOS 6 Maps
Personally I'd rather have more accurate (and abundant) search results than 3D flyovers. Why? Because when I want to find a restaurant in a new city, I don't care what the area looks like from a helicopter.
Words With Friends co-creators leave Zynga | VentureBeat
Dean Takahashi, VentureBeat:
In a phone interview with GamesBeat, the brothers confirmed their departure but wouldn’t say what they’ll do next. They would also not say what they thought of their time at Zynga. Paul Bettner said, “We are still very excited about the future and feel like we are at the beginning.”
Meanwhile, Zynga's stock is in freefall.
iPhone 5 Demand Overwhelming Limited Supply - John Paczkowski - Mobile - AllThingsD
John Paczkowski, All Things D:
If iPhone 5 sales have not yet spiked to the heights investors had hoped, it’s not because of limited demand. It’s due to a continuing shortfall in supply.
A number of people have told me they wish they had an iPhone 5 right now but can't find them. Imagine the kind of sales we might be seeing if everybody who wanted an iPhone 5 today could just walk in and buy one.
Apple Suppliers Begin Producing the iPad Junior
"Two of the people", Wall Street Journal:
The smaller tablet will have a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display with a lower resolution than the latest iPad, which was released in March, two of the people said. The screen on the current iPad measures 9.7 inches diagonally, a size that hasn't changed since the first model was released in 2010.
Yes, the iPhone 5 does vibrate differently - The Next Web
The Next Web:
So, if you’ve been feeling that the vibration in your iPhone 5 sounds louder and rougher and just more ‘violent’ overall, that’s why. Apple — for some reason — decided to go back to the older, less refined design for the vibration motor.
Interesting. The iPhone 5's vibration feels weaker and sounds cheap and hollow, and I don't like it. It's the only thing I believe isn't superior to every previous generation of iPhone.
Reviews: Apple iPhone 5 (16GB/32GB/64GB) | iLounge
Jeremy Horwitz, iLounge:
Apple claimed “up to 6 hours” of 3G Internet use on the iPhone 4S, so it was exciting to see that the iPhone 5 promise “up to 8 hours” of LTE or 3G Internet use. Unfortunately, this turns out to be a best case scenario: if you’re using your iPhone 5 in places a with a very strong (4- to 5-bar) LTE or 3G signal, your cellular battery life may approach that number, but if not, the cellular antenna will struggle to maintain a signal, and fall well short. Because LTE and 3G/4G towers are in a state of build-out flux right now, our tests suggest that many LTE users won’t come close to Apple’s promised numbers.
This might explain why here in Austin, TX where the LTE network is well built out, I get such great battery life.
8 Million iPhone 5's Sold?
John Paczkowski, All Things D:
“We have counted iPhone launch day lines at every launch since the iPhone 3G in 2008,” Munster said in a note to clients. “We believe that based on our count of 775 customers in line for the iPhone 5 at the flagship 5th Avenue store, demand for the iPhone 5 is higher than any previous launch. We believe the line for the iPhone 5 was 70 percent greater than the line for the iPhone 4S despite Apple taking 2x as many online preorders. … Given the strength of the line for the iPhone 5, we are incrementally more confident in Apple’s ability to sell 8 million phones in the launch weekend.”
Some Early Adopters Claim iPhone 5 Case Is Scratch-tacular
Mike Isaac, All Things D:
A number of Apple early adopters claim that the back case of the iPhone 5 is highly susceptible to scratching and more visible signs of wear and tear, according to multiple reports from across the Web.
Perhaps even more serious, numerous accounts state that users are receiving iPhone 5 devices damaged directly out of the packaging, before customers have had chance to actually lay hands the device.
It seems to be an issue with the anodized aluminum surface, and the apparent difficulty that comes with keeping the device from getting nicks and scrapes. It appears that the black version is either more susceptible to damage than its white counterpart, or signs of visible wear are more readily visible due to the higher contrast in colors.
Verizon CFO: “Unlimited is just a word”
Jim Dalrymple:, regarding Verizon CEO's statement that the word unlimited "doesn't mean anything":
No – it doesn’t. Mostly because you cell phone providers have made it meaningless. You used it to sucker in customers and once you got your hooks into them, you removed or “redefined” the word to suit your needs – but not the needs of the customers. So you’re right, it doesn’t mean anything – when weasels like you use it.
